Show Yourself Some Love – 5 Tips For Self Kindness!

At Living Strong Chiropractic, we always say that change comes from within. Taking care of your mental and emotional health is just as important as your physical health. Self-care isn’t just an excuse to buy a new bag, or eat an extra bar of chocolate; it’s about taking the steps necessary to allow yourself to heal and truly relax from the stresses of life. So this month consider Self kindness not just Self care.

What Can You Do?

Have a Hot Drink –  If you’re having a particularly hard day, taking 5 minutes to sit and enjoy a hot drink offers you a break from whatever stress is weighing you down. Just sit and appreciate everything around you as you drink, and you’ll find yourself feeling more relaxed. Turn your phone off, close your eyes, and just be.

Practice Mindfulness –  Following on from the idea of taking the time to relax, practicing mindfulness is a great way to release any tension you’ve carried throughout the day. Sit or lay down before bed, try to clear your mind, and only focus on your breathing. Exhale all the stress and negativity in your life, and inhale fresh thoughts and perspectives. Focusing on your breathing can help reduce any anxiety you may be feeling.

Regular Sleeping Pattern – It may seem like a no brainer, but having a regular sleeping pattern where you actually get enough sleep is one of the fundamentals of self-care. Running on empty all the time will just make you feel more stressed and overworked. Remember the hours before midnight are the most important. It has been shown that the sleep you get before midnight is better for restoring your body. Actually, so much more repairing to your brain and body cells, that every 1 hour of sleep you get before midnight is worth 2 – 3 times as much. Do following on from last month’s focus on the small changes you can make – get to bed 20 minutes earlier than you used to.

Learn to Say No – Learning to say no is a key skill that will help you in the long run. If you feel totally overwhelmed, being able to say no to people is necessary to prevent yourself from burning out. You’re not mean, you’re just putting your mental health and well being first.

Work From The Inside Out – It’s important to take a holistic approach when thinking of your overall health and well-being. Showing yourself some love can go a long way in keeping you motivated to reach your intentions of the year, and attain a healthy, happier lifestyle.
